ARPTalk, Issue 26
Welcome to the twenty-sixth (26th) issue of ARPTalk. Featured in ARPTalk(26) are the following three (5) articles:
(26.1) APOLOGY AND RETRACTION – The Editor’s apology to Mr. Steve Southwell.
(26.2) DABNEY, DARWIN, SCIENCE, AND SCRIPTURE – by Mr. Seth Stark – Mr. Stark is a student at Biola University. Mr. Stark’s paper explores the views of a famous Southern Presbyterian theologian on creation.
(26.3) DURABLE HYMNS: Five Marks of Excellence That Could End the Worship Wars – by Dr. Donald T. Williams – Dr. Williams, a professor of English at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia, writes in praise of traditional hymns; however, as much as the Editor agrees with Dr. Williams, the Editor doubts that Dr. Williams’ thoughts will end the worship wars.
(26.4) WESTMINSTER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY: POST PETER ENNS – by Charles W. Wilson – The Editor notes that since the situation at WTS has been remedied that WTS is awash in students and gifts.
(26.5) A CALLED MEETING OF SYNOD – by Charles W. Wilson – The request of the Moderator on behalf of the Investigatory Commission on Erskine College and Theological Seminary for a Called Meeting of General Synod to receive and act on the Commission’s report has been concurred with by the vote of three of our Presbyteries. This meeting will take place at Bonclarken on March 2 and 3. The vote process of the three presbyteries was uneventful except for the bifurcated actions of Mr. Scott Mitchell, the Chairman of the Erskine Board.
SPECIAL NOTE: The Editor wants to make sure that the readers of ARPTalk are aware of the Manhattan Declaration.This declaration is authored by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George, and Chuck Colson. In these days of uncertainty and ridicule for people of Christian faith, the Manhattan Declaration is a call for evangelicals, Catholics, Anglicans, and Eastern Orthodox Christians to unite in order to give common witness to (1) THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE, (2) THE DIGNITY OF MARRIAGE, and (3) RELIGIOUS LIBERTY for all persons. So far, over 370,009 have signed the declaration and the goal is 1,000,000 signatures. If you would like to know more about the Manhattan Declaration or become one the signers, the site is ManhattanDeclaration.org and you may go to the site by clicking the site address in blue.
If you are new to ARPTalk, ARPTalk is NOT an official voice of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The purposes of ARPTalk are two-fold: (1) To inform and educate the ministers and laypeople of ARPdom on significant issues that are before ARPdom; and (2) To give voice to and encouragement to those who feel they have been ignored and marginalized.
