ARPTalk, Issue 7
October 29, 2008
Welcome to the seventh issue of ARPTalk. Life has been busy and interesting in ARPdom as of late. The Erskine Board meeting. The Fall meetings of the ARP presbyteries. As a matter of fact, the amount of news is such that one issue of ARPTalk is not enough to cover all the news and to explore some of the ideas that were mentioned at the end of ARPTalk(6). A report on the meetings of the presbyteries will have to wait for the posting of ARPTalk(8).
Featured in ARPTalk(7) are the following three articles:
(1) An Analysis of Executive Vice-President Gaston’s Vision Statement for Erskine Theological Seminary;
(2) An Analysis of the Erskine Board Meeting; and
(3) A Modest Proposal for the Reformation of Erskine Theological Seminary.
ARPTalk is posted on a blog site (http://arptalk.weebly.com). This makes it possible for the posting of resource materials that you may find interesting. This month on the blog site includes a paper by Rev. Joseph W. Donahue, “Inerrancy.” Mr. Donahue is the Pastor of the Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church, Bartlett, TN, and is a new member of the Erskine Board. This paper is significant because it is a history of the inerrancy controversy in the ARPC by an ARP Pastor who was present for most of the debates and battles. The paper is posted as a resource on the blog site because it is 70+ pages long. ARPTalk is an e-magazine, but our technological skill is such that we do not know how to send this paper out via e-mail without clogging up servers. A copy of this paper is posted below.
If you are new to ARPTalk, ARPTalk is NOT an official voice of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The purposes of ARPTalk are two-fold: (1) To inform the ministers and laypeople of ARPdom of significant issues that are before ARPdom that are overlooked by the ARP establishment; and (2) To give voice to and encourage those who feel their voice has been ignored and they have been marginalized.
ARPTalk is free to those who want it. If you are on the mailing list of ARPTalk , it is because you are an ARP minister or layperson or someone who is interested in the ARPC or things Presbyterian in general. If you do not want to read this issue of ARPTalk, please do not open the attachment. If you do not want to be on the mailing list of ARPTalk, please click on the following site address (ARPTalk@bellsouth.net) and request that your name be removed and your address will be promptly removed.
If you have thoughts, articles, reviews, criticisms, or news that are of interest to the ministers and laypersons of ARPdom, and if you submit them, I will most likely publish them in ARPTalk.
If you have missed past issues of ARPTalk, the above blog site is used archivally to store past issues of ARPTalk. If that doesn’t work, e-mail me at wilson6114@bellsouth.net and copies will be sent to you.
I hope you find ARPTalk(7) interesting and informative. I look forward to hearing from you.
The opinions expressed in the articles of ARRPtalk are the opinions of the writers.
Charles (“Chuck”) W. Wilson
